Golf is Not a Game of Perfection: Neither is Leadership
Perfection is often the silent killer of leadership communication. Communication and trust break down when leaders chase flawlessness. They over-prepare, overthink, and hesitate when clarity should be the goal. In golf, and in leadership, perfection is not the standard; our recovery is.
Strong communicators accept that missteps happen. A message may land awkwardly. Your response could have been sharper. People misunderstand your intention. What matters most is the ability to reset quickly and continue with composure.
Executive presence isn’t defined by getting everything right. It’s defined by how leaders manage themselves when incidents go slightly wrong. What will others notice? Do you see how that applies to golf?
Ask yourself:
Do you hold yourself to unrealistic standards when speaking as a leader?
How quickly do you recover after a communication misspeak or misstep?
What helps you reset when a message doesn’t land the way you intended?
